Novemberfest Results: Day 1 | Day 2 Competitors have until Dec 2nd to contest these provisional results, at which time they become official. Glen Helen 3 is cancelled Sorry. FRX Presents: Cal City eXtreme RallyX - Sept 19+20 FRX is proud to present a brand new venue and an all new event. California City, located in Kern County on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, gives some very unique opportunities. This two-day event will have, on Saturday, a Test-n-Tune (pay per run) and, at the top of every hour, Grudge Matches where two people get to duke it out on our dueling course. On Sunday, it's a RallyX as normal for Southern California region points. More information at CalCity Link Prairie City results! Preliminary results are here for all to see! These results are preliminary for 2 weeks. Results PC Points are up and the FRX NorCal points are updated. Linky. Prairie City is BACK! June 28 The Northern California Crew has brought back Prarie City! Info at Prairie City link - this is a classic and unusual location! Not to be missed! One of the very few places with some elevation changes and a long, rambling course, this area has become a favorite of the Northern California rallycross crowd! Camping is available the night before - and it should end up being a bit of a party! Pre-Reg is up at MotorsportReg - pricing is based on how many people come out, so the more, the less you pay. . .which means get your friends out there!!! FRX Novemberfest Scheduled for November 14, 15 in Prairie City, CA. This will be a 15 point event spanning two days. Plus, the Regional Showdown will happen - I'll get to that in just a second. Prairie City is a prime venue, with a great surface, a unique course, and just a lot of fun. It's also close enough to Sacramento for some evening entertainment. And it has the Regional Showdown! Unique to FormulaRallyX, we will invite the top three competitors in each class (at the time of the showdown) to compete in a bracket style elimination tournament. The course will be a loop and competitors will start on "opposite" sides, they will run one full lap (finish where they started) and the first one to finish, wins. No timing. . .just beat your competitor or you're done! SS2 goes up against SS2, and so forth - this is within class so the competition is CLOSE. Last year, SoCal took 5 of the 6 titles, but the races were TIGHT and exciting! Invitations will be sent out to all FRX regions. DO NOT miss this! We will have pricing and full schedule information in just a bit - and we will send that out and post it on forums when we have it set in. There will be discounts for early registration! Just as an interesting (if you're like me) note, this is the fourth FRX "big thing" event. 2006 and 2007 were held in Laughlin NV; 2008 was held in Ridgecrest, CA (SoCal region); and 2009 will be held in Prairie City (NorCal). Information is available at Link. Half the season down, half to go! With June rapidly approaching, it's a good time to take stock of where we are and where we're going. Southern California has run three FRX points events so far (points to go up this weekend) and that's just about it for the "Spring" session. Yep - it's a bit lower this year than previous years. As you can imagine, there are a lot of reasons for this. Bear with us - we'll all get through it. However, we should have 2 events in Johnson Valley in the fall, Glen Helen is scheduled for early October, and we're working hard to get at least one weekend in California City! That means 4, possibly 5 events in SoCal for the fall! Northern California has had a rough go of it, with several organizers needing to step back for a while. Jon Burke has been doing a great job building a team to restore their events. Vallejo I went off extremely well, and will be the site for the 2009 FRX Not-Quite-Finale (we're still working on a name - more in a sec), and hopefully will have another event there. Add Prairie City, which will happen in June, Thunderhill, which is looking good to come back with a couple of events, and Angels-Camp, and there's a good possibility of 4-5 events there in the fall, with hopefully a good strong schedule for 2010. Our newest region, Utah, has run two strong events so far, and are looking to keep that up with a good number of events throughout the summer and fall! With several established venues, including Jordan River, Miller Motorsport Park, and Crystal Hot Springs, they've got at 4-5 regional events on the schedule for summer-fall. Okay, the big announcement! FRX "Nearly End of Year Big Thing" As I said, we're still working on the name. FRX Finale sounds too. . .final. And it's not - there may be several events AFTER it. . . so if you have ideas, let us know! Scheduled for November 7, 8 in Vallejo, CA. This will be a 15 point event spanning two days. Plus, the Regional Showdown will happen - I'll get to that in just a second. Vallejo is a prime venue, with a great surface, a great course designer, and just a lot of fun. It's also close enough to San Francisco for some evening entertainment. And it has the Regional Showdown! Unique to FormulaRallyX, we will invite the top three competitors in each class (at the time of the showdown) to compete in a bracket style elimination tournament. Johnson Valley blows away! Okay, not really. But it was windy! Dust clouds were seen OUTRUNNING the cars that made them! Yeah, that windy! Bill Martin's innovative dual course - two mirror-image courses set up ProSolo style - worked exceptionally well! Each course was just over a minute in length, and he was able to get 8 runs (4 per side) for each person for 8-12 minutes of seat time per person. The strange thing was that the surface did not break down. Typically, Johnson Valley goes from a hard crust to a deep silt surface as the day goes on. Street Stock and Street Mod tends to be the fastest as they get to run on hard surfaces with street tires - obviously more traction equals faster speed. This still held true, but the Rally classes were hampered by their rally tires, which were not up to the task of running on what was essentially pavement. . . the surface never broke down. Overall, however, the temperatures did warm up although the wind never died down. Jackets did come off for about an hour but then went back on as the temps started dipping again. Eight runs per person was great - even though each run was short, the courses were FAST and quite fun and left most drivers wanting more! Fun runs went on for about an hour with many drivers getting 4 or 5 more runs in before Bill had to call a stop so we could get him cleaned up and and packed away. Results are available but in short, Bill Martin had fastest times on 7 of 8 runs (betting beaten on run 5 by Lorne Curtis, with a margin of .23 seconds). The closest class race was Rally 2WD (which is shaping up as a very tight class) with Tom Smith and Odi Bakchis going 1/2 and 5.01 seconds between them, and John Black and Mike Malsed going 3/4 with 2.02 seconds between them. Rally 4 was close as well, with Kevin Mount, Trent Koury, and Kurt Smith finishing 1/2/3 and less than 7 seconds separating them. Scoring Update!!! With events in Northern Californa, Southern California, and Utah all in the books, we have the beginnings of a points race heating up! NorCal has Erick Martin leading Street Stock 2, Burney Storms leading Street Mod 2, Alex Rademacher leading Rally 2; Bill Martin leads Street Stock 4, Tyler Desoto leads Street Mod 4, and Noah Shanok leads Rally 4. Points SoCal has Dave Clark leading SS2, Tyler Turnbull leading SM2, and Mike Malsed leading R2; Justin Bergman leads SS4, Thomas Crane leads SM4, and Trent Koury leads R4. Points In our brand new region, Utah, it's Archer Bennion leading SS2 and Jon Olschewski leading R2; Robbie Schembari leads SS4, Ross Luzzader leads SM4, and Karl Sealander leads R4.Points More events are coming right up so get involved! SoCal has Johnson Valley coming up this Saturday: Link and Glen Helen 2 on April 25: Link and Utah has "Back in Black" on April 25! Link Utah Phoenix Rising, Vallejo Rally School and RallyCross and SoCal Johnson Valley 1 are coming up!!! Utah Phoenix Rising. . . If you were at last years Vallejo rallyX, you know what a great venue this is! This year, we're on the other side of their main road in an even LARGER space and we'll be making a very LONG and FUN course. Pre-reg is available at MotorsportReg.com Schedule is available at FormulaRallyX/Vallejo Johnson Valley Rallycross #1 . . . April 11 will be held on April 11. Under new management, this event will feature some changes. Inspired loosely after Pro Solo, there will be left and right mirror image courses. Two cars will launch side-by-side at centerline and complete their respective courses. Spectators will enjoy watching the relative progress of the two cars throughout the runs. Speeds will be just slightly higher than more technical courses, and the times will be somewhat shorter. But the plan is to have four runs each side, eight total. We hope to start promptly and finish runs in early afternoon in an attempt to dodge any afternoon winds. The venue is at the west end of Soggy lake in Johnson Valley OHV Area. Directions here: formularallyx.com/johnsonvalley Cost $40 with a minimum pre-entry of 20 drivers. Should we actually draw 30+ entrants, those pre-entered will receive a discount rate of $35. Walk-ins still at $40. Pre-registration is located here:MotorsportReg.com Soak City POSTPONED! Soak City 1 (Chula Vista - San Diego) has been postponed. The event, scheduled for February 28, has been postponed to a date TBD. In addition, the other two scheduled dates, March 28 and April 18, have been canceled "due to conflicting events/attractions that further impact the availability of core workers (timing/scoring) and competitors alike." This will cause at least one other event to change its date - likely to cover the March 28th date - details will come for that one. Stay Tuned! Upcoming Events! Phoenix Rising - Utah Rally Group - March 21st The URG (Utah Rally Group) is proud to present the March 2009 SCCA Utah Region RallyCross event "Phoenix Rising ". It will be held at the Jordan River OHV Park, Utah on March 21st. Registration will be open from 8:00am to 9:30am, the driver's meeting will be at 9:45am, with first car running at 10:00am. The event usually goes until mid to late afternoon, with each competitor being given six runs. San Diego - Soak City on Feb 28 The San Diego SCCA is running their first rallycross of the year at Soak City in Chula Vista. This event is the second one at Soak City as they "proved" the venue last year. The San Diego SCCA Rallycross schedule can be found at SDR-SCCA.com/RallyCross as well as any details to come. This event will count for the SoCal FRX points championship. Dave Haws and Louie Minnette have announced their plans for Glen Helen I to be held on March 7. This event will feature a "triple-chase" style, building on the "dueling" formats used at FRX events in Laughlin, Glen Helen, and Ridgecrest. This timed event adds the excitement of three cars, safely separated, but running with simultaneous starts and, hopefully, close finishes. As always, FRX events stress safety, so all cars remain separated by safe distances as they run around a looped course. Located in the southern portion of Glen Helen Raceway, GHI is one of Southern California's premier events. GHI will count toward the SoCal FRX points championships. A minimum of 35 pre-entries is required for this event to proceed. Cost: $50 day of / $45 with pre-registration / $40 with pre-registration and CRS or NASA membership (prior to the event) Stock and Mod registration - 7-9am; Rally class registration - 12:30-2:00 - DO NOT BE LATE PLEASE! Be on the FRX CREW FRX is proud to announce the creation of the ‘FRX Crew.’ While a specific individual/organizer runs and ‘owns’ each event, we recognize that no event would happen without volunteers. What we are looking for are motivated individuals who are willing to work directly with the event organizer and help manage the specific volunteer functions. These functions include, but are not limited to: Timing, Starting Grid, Course workers, Setup/Breakdown, Course master (design, grading, watering) This is also a great way to learn for anyone interested in running his or her own event! Certain positions may include a reduced entry fee for Volunteer Board members for specific events; this will be determined and announced by the event organizers. This is open to all competitors and spectators. For anyone interested in helping to mange volunteer functions for either a specific event, or for the season, please contact FRX directly.
